WYC SAILING PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Thank you for your interest in the Wessagusset Sailing Program. We are looking forward to another great summer on the water.
As instructors, we are committed to directing an education in marine safety, in conjunction with a rigorous course of instruction, at
different levels, on how to manage a small sailboat in various types of weather. Though the program does contain an academic component,
it is primarily designed in a way that makes it FUN and ENJOYABLE for its students.
We will teach two classes Monday through Friday, beginners in the morning and advanced sailors in the afternoon. The typical daily routine
for both sessions consists of a brief lesson in the classroom, then going out to sail for the rest of the session. Sailors will come
in for a fifteen minute break in which they may have a snack.
To ensure personal safety and the general well being of all of the students in the program, we need your cooperation in a few key areas.
First, the morning class runs from 9AM to 12 noon and the afternoon class from 1PM to 4P, so we would ask that you
arrange for your child to arrive promptly for class and not arrive earlier or remain later than his/her designated class time. When the kids
arrive late, it delays the class before we set out to sail, and we need to have everyone there on time in order to do this in the quickest
manner possible. We ask this in the interest of maximizing students' time on the water. In addition, there is no structured supervision of the
kids before or after class, so please do not drop kids off much before the start of class, or pick them up much after the end.
We ask that your child bring the following items to class on a daily basis:
- Lifejacket
- Whistle
- Sneakers or water shoes
- Change of clothes
- Sunnscreen, hat
- 3 or 4 ft. of line
- Snack
We will have class rain or shine. If small craft advisory warnings are posted,
thunderstorms are threatening, or other conditions exist that prevent safety on the
water we certainly will not sail, but rather do work in the classroom watching movies, tying knots, reviewing lessons, etc.
Thank you very much for your interest in the program. We hope to see you this summer.
Sincerely,
Maura Perex
