Abigail Smith, daughter of the minister of Old North
Church, was born in Weymouth Heights in 1744.
There she was raised, courted, and married to John
Adams of nearby Quincy. They became the parents
of John Quincy Adams. For many years, Abigail was the only
woman who was married to one president and the mother of
another president. John and Abigail were known to enjoy an
evening row along Weymouth and Quincy shores.
